A Floor Coil system is undoubtedly the most sensible form of heating for many reasons, not least of which is the fact that it provides a constant, even temperature differing at most by 1°C between floor and ceiling, offering comfort for feet. The Floor Coil system is also ideal in a kindergarten setting where the children spend a lot of time sitting on the floor. ThermalAIR's system is very much appreciated by clients because it is not distributed from certain points inside the home and is therefore unaffected by the placement of furniture or objects on the floor. Being independent of convected air means the Floor Coil system is often more acceptable in such places as laboratories and hospitals where air and dust can be an aggravation to both workers and occupants of the building.

Floor Coil heating is a particularly quiet, clean and unobstructive system of heating - no ducts, fans or visible parts at all, except a small control thermostat and boiler located in a plantroom or service area. In some domestic applications the boiler can supply the hot water requirements for the building as well. How it worksThe pipe is laid on wire reinforcing mesh in the concrete slab prior to the normal pouring process. Water heated to a maximum of 50°C passes through the pipes which are coiled to cover the floor areas. The water temperature of 50°C gives the floor a temperature of 27°C and a room temperature of 21°C, the internationally accepted standard for comfortable interior heating.

Whilst under floor heating by piped water is as old as the Romans, Floor Coil heating's design pays particular attention to contemporary work and living patterns. Each system is individually designed and tailored to the use of the building to achieve maximum efficiency and economy. In areas where there may be less than constant use (eg. the bedroom of a house or the amenities area of a factory) the normal amount of pipe is reduced and therefore the temperature will be lower than in the other parts of the building. The system can also be structured around "zones" so that certain areas can be turned off or reduced, thus shortening the distance travelled by the water and saving on fuel.
